Course Details

Study the foundational theory of dental science and the promotion of oral healthcare in underserved communities. Train alongside experienced, supportive professionals and explore issues of concern, particularly relating to tropical, rural and indigenous practice. Be equipped with practical work skills in JCUs world-class dental teaching complex, with a state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratory. Apply your theoretical knowledge as you assess, diagnose and perform dental work on real patients. Expand your network and experience through extensive professional placements.

Qualification: Bachelor Degree (Pass)

Course structure: 120 credit points. The first 3 to 4 years are offered at the Cairns Campus. Final year placements are in public and private dental clinics across northern Queensland, including Mackay, Proserpine, Atherton and Thursday Island. Part-time study is not permitted in Levels 3, 4 and 5.

If students identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, JCU can assist students in their pursuit of a health career through the Indigenous Health Careers Access Program (IHCAP). International student visa-holders must not enrol in more than a third of the total credit points for the course in online, distance or external study.
