The scholarship is funded by the Chen family, in honour of Mrs Polly Chen. Polly Chen is a graduate of the University of Singapore (Bachelor of Laws (Hons), 1969). She was appointed a Magistrate in Singapore, and later became the first woman to be appointed Singapore's Registrar of Trademarks and Patents. Polly had also been a partner in a Singapore law firm for many years when, in 1990, she and her family moved to Australia.
