Award value: $31298 annually
Level of study: Postgraduate
Nationality: Australian and New Zealand
This scholarship is funded by an Australian Research Council Linkage project awarded to Professor Murray Mitchell. The Child and Reproductive Health group in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Institute of Health & Biomedical Innovation (IHBI), QUT, based at Centre for Children?s Health Research (CCHR) is seeking two biomedical or biological science graduates to undertake PhD projects. The projects involve exosomes, biochemical/cell and molecular biology to evaluate fertility and pregnancy complications. This PhD offers the opportunity to work with an internationally recognised team under the supervision of Professor Murray Mitchell. The two successful applicants will work on projects involving (i) the measurements of lipids, nucleic acids and proteins/cytokines within exosomes isolated from bovine biological fluids (e.g. milk/plasma). (ii) evaluations of exosomal effects on cell responsiveness and cellular pathways. In particular, the roles of eicosanoids and endocannabinoids will be evaluated to study higher and lower fertility, metabolic status and reproductive pathways. This will be achieved by exosome isolation, mass spectrometric profiling, ELISA, PCR arrays and miRNA profiling.
