Graduate Diploma in Natural Resources Law
The University of Western Australia (UWA)
Course Details
This course is ideal if youre looking to expand your current knowledge of the mining, energy and natural resources sector or if you seek a new career path in this highly regulated industry. This course is available for law and non-law graduates, and, depending on your qualifications, this course may be articulated into the Master of Resources and International Commercial Law or Master of Mining and Energy Law. Youll study a foundation unit in law governance (this applies to all students except those with a recognized law degree) and also choose three option units, from topics such as mining law, climate change, and oil and gas project development. The topics dealing with the regulation of industry such as mining and oil and gas law provide a deep understanding not only of the steps required to commercialize the resource and the required legal compliance, but put those things into a practical context. So you will learn how oil and gas exploration is conducted and what is involved in the steps from finding a commercial reservoir to its sale. This informs your understanding of the contracts involved (joint operating agreements and gas sales contracts among others), but also of the associated risks and legal issues.
