Bachelor of Secondary Education (Mathematics)

Course Details

Secondary educators play a pivotal role in teaching, supporting and inspiring students during a crucial time in their growth and development. Throughout this four-year degree you will learn how to teach high school students about mathematics, motivating and encouraging them to fully engage in their learning journey. During this degree, you will study mathematics subjects including calculus, algebra, statistics and mathematical modelling, complemented with subjects about teaching and learning strategies, including learning and development, pedagogy (that is, what to teach and how to teach it), professional teaching skills, curriculum studies and techniques for meeting the needs of students. This major makes up the core of the Bachelor of Secondary Education. You also have the option to undertake an approved minor, including geography or Aboriginal studies, gaining specialisation in a second teaching area. Students may also take up extra mathematics subjects to deepen the breadth of their content knowledge. UOW has strong community ties with schools and an extensive professional experience program. Throughout the degree you will have opportunities for rural and international placement experiences, to study overseas with UOWs international exchange and study abroad partners, and to join international cultural immersion programs.
