Course Details

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Enhanced Program for High Achievers - 4 years is designed to allow students flexibility to choose a tailored program from a field of study within the College of Science and Engineering and, where appropriate, complement this study with a relevant discipline from across the University. Honours and ongoing research training will be an integral part of the course. This course will offer students of exceptional merit additional challenging material to enable them to maximise their intellectual growth and potential and to provide an environment where students with similar interests and capabilities can come together to pursue their studies, develop their interests and share ideas. In addition, it aims to develop through a combination of inquiry based learning and students' capabilities, interest and enthusiasm, an enhanced research training experience so that students are particularly well prepared to embark on a larger scale research project, like a PhD.

Qualification: Bachelor Degree (Honours)

Course structure: In first year students enrol in a range of subjects to prepare them for the area(s) of science in which they will specialise in later years and are provided with an introduction to research methodologies and techniques. In the second and third years students focus their studies in one or more areas by developing a tailored science program in consultation with their course coordinator. A research project driven by student choice is also undertaken at each of these year levels. In the fourth (Honours) year, each student undertakes a specialised course and an individually supervised extended research project in the area of sciences they have been specialising in presenting the results of their research in the form of a thesis and seminars.
