Course Details

Explore the complex and fascinating world of genetics and unravel the mysteries of DNA with the ANU Bachelor of Genetics. You’ll learn how genes hold our hereditary information, and study classical genetics, molecular genetics, population genetics, and bioinformatics. You can even follow interests in areas as diverse as plant genetics, evolutionary genetics or medicine and health. Studying at ANU means you’ll be exposed to ground-breaking research being undertaken by our academics in active research laboratories at the Research School of Biology and the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australia’s national medical research institute.

Qualification: Bachelor Degree (Pass)

Course structure: In this program students will study a total of 144 units. Typically students will take 4 courses per semester (total of 24 units) and 8 courses per year (total of 48 units) as a full-time student. Students will complete 24 courses over the three years (total of 144 units). Out of the 144 units, 96 units (16 courses) must be science courses and the remaining 48 units (8 courses) can be from science or non-science courses. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Genetics must maintain an average of 65 per cent across all compulsory and core courses each semester to remain in this program. Semester one admit only. This program can also be incorporated into a double degree through the Flexible Double in any of the three groups Arts, Business, Social Sciences, and Science or Engineering and Advanced Computing or Law.
