Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours) / Master of Engineering (Biomedical)
Flinders University
Course Details
The Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours), Master of Engineering (Biomedical) requires 5 years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The double degree course is offered by the College of Science and Engineering.
Qualification: Bachelor Degree (Honours)
Course structure: The first year comprises of core topics in electronics, professional skills, engineering design, engineering programming, engineering physics and materials, engineering mechanics, and mathematics. Second year then builds on core topics in engineering mathematics, analysis of engineering systems, mechanics and structures, fluid mechanics, dynamics, engineering materials, and thermodynamics and energy systems. Within this year there is also a mechanical practice certificate workshop and design project. The third and fourth year builds on this again with further topics in engineering and medical science, including mechanics and structures, fluid mechanics, biomaterials, human physiology, and mechanics of machines. Third year also includes the opportunity to participate in a nationally recognised 20 week industry placement. The final year includes studies in a major mechanical engineering honours thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research. It also involves topics in advanced mechanical design, and standards, ethics and compliance.
